Menlo Park City School District Board Elects New President

The Menlo Park City School District elected a new Board of Education president Tuesday in Atherton.

President Laura Rich had presided over meetings and shared her vision of education policy for the past year.

“You really paved the way for our working together on the governance team so well,” Superintendent Maurice Ghysels said to Rich just before the vote was held. Ghysels said this past year had been a “delight” and thanked her for volunteering her time to the district.

“You’ve always been there for us, shared your wisdom, and had a relentless dedication to the board,” Ghysels said.  Rich nominated Board Member Terry Thygesen to succeed her and was seconded by Board Member Joan Lambert.

Thygesen was elected unanimously with a 5-0 vote. Lambert was elected unanimously to be the Vice President.

After the applause ceased, Rich said this was “the easiest election you’ll ever have.”
