​SMC Hiker Who Went Missing Christmas Eve Found Safe Christmas Morning

The man went hiking Christmas Eve but got lost and called for help.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A missing 63-year-old hiker was located safely in Edgewood Park on Christmas morning after an extensive overnight search, police said.

Joseph Conway was hiking in the park on Christmas Eve night, when he became lost, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

At around 9:40 p.m., he called for help using his cellphone, but the battery died shortly after, police said.

The sheriff's office, along with San Mateo County Parks rangers, searched for Conway throughout the night.

At around 9:30 a.m. on Christmas morning search and rescue teams found Conway in Edgewood Park. Although wet, cold, and tired, deputies said he is believed to be in good health.
