Menlo Park Police Will Not Tolerate Celebratory Gunfire

The Menlo Park Police department announced that popping fireworks is not allowed within city limits.  Discharging a firearm is also illegal, said Nicole Acker, Menlo Park Police’s public information officer. 

Acker said these crimes are serious, because they can cause severe injury or death to another person.

“There will be no tolerance for celebratory gunfire or fireworks,” Acker said. 

Shooting a gun to celebrate the new year would be considered a reckless discharge of a firearm, which is a felony she said. 

Possessing fireworks is a misdemeanor. Concerned citizens can report unlawful conduct to the police by calling (650) 330-6300.
