Motorcyclist Badly Injured in I-280 Crash

Driver taken to Stanford Hospital.

A motorcyclist suffered major head and chest injuries after drifting into the path of a passing car on Interstate Highway 280 on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 32-year-old woman was riding north on I-280 just south of Edgewood Road on a 2006 silver Honda motorcycle around 12:15 p.m., CHP officials said. The motorcyclist was traveling in the left lane when a 2005 silver Honda sedan passed in the next lane over.

For an unknown reason, as the car passed, the motorcyclist drifted into its lane, according to CHP. The car's driver, a 20-year-old San Jose man, said he tried to avoid a collision, but did not succeed, according to the CHP.

The driver of the sedan had no injuries. The motorcyclist sustained major head and chest injuries and was taken to Stanford Medical Center for treatment.

The collision remains under investigation.
