• Report of person with firearm results in lockdown in West Menlo Park — suspect commits suicide (inmenlo.com) — A heavy law-enforcement response in West Menlo Park on Tuesday followed reports of an armed, suicidal person in a vehicle on Avy Avenue, prompting lockdowns at nearby schools and St. Denis Church until officers confirmed the individual had died from a gunshot wound. Officials are urging Menlo Park and West Menlo Park residents to sign up for SMC Alert and Menlo Park’s Nixle for future safety notifications and highlighting local mental health crisis resources.
   

• Fermilab gets a new leader from Stanford: Norbert Holtkamp (chicagobusiness.com) — Menlo Park’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory gets a nod as former deputy director and current Stanford physicist Norbert Holtkamp is tapped to lead Fermilab near Chicago. His new role will shape major U.S. particle physics projects, including a multibillion-dollar neutrino experiment, building on experience gained at SLAC and other national labs.
