Peninsula Nonprofit Awarded Bezos Day 1 Families Fund Grants

Menlo Park's LifeMoves was among the 32 recipients around the country to receive a portion of a total of $96.2 million in funds.

MENLO PARK, CA — LifeMoves, a Peninsula-based nonprofit, received a $5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund to help end homelessness in the Bay Area.

The Day 1 Families Fund, launched by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, was founded in 2018 and funds organizations and civic groups that work to provide food and shelter to young families.

The organization said in a news release that it plans to serve more families and increase its behavioral health and children’s educational programming.

San Jose's Asian Americans for Community Involvement ($2.5 million) and Destination: Home ($5 million) were among 32 organizations around the country to receive a portion of a total of $96.2 million in funds.

The grant money will be used by Asian Americans for Community Involvement to pilot an integrated approach to provide housing services.

Destination: Home will be able to support HEADING HOME, a new campaign to end family homelessness by 2025 in Santa Clara County.

The organizations were selected by an independent advisory board of homelessness experts with a range of experience, according to a news release.
