School Board Will Decide How To Fill Empty Board Seat Tuesday

District Trustee Mark Box's recent resignation opened a spot on the Menlo Park City School District Board of Education.

The Menlo Park City School District will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the district office, which is located at 181 Encinal Avenue.

The discussion at that meeting will revolve around deciding on a plan to fill the board seat that will become vacant when current board member Mark Box relocates to Barcelona.

The agenda for the meeting states “Superintendent Ranella will recommend a process” for choosing the Mr. Box’ successor.  Whoever is chosen will serve on the board for the rest of his term, which ends in December 2012.

Two options for doing so are presented on the district website:

1) A community election, which would take place in November.
2) An appointment of an individual by the Board of Education.

The meeting will be open to the public.
