
Student journalists at the San Matean, the College of San Mateo’s newspaper, are hoping to participate in an annual journalism contest, but need to secure additional funds to showcase their talents.
The Journalism Association of Community Colleges, a nonprofit that supports journalism programs throughout the state, will hold its annual competition in Sacramento from April 7-9.
The contest categories include news writing, in-depth reporting, feature writing, photography and video.

The San Matean has previously received awards.
However, the program has a a shortfall in funds this year, and is seeking donations to help ensure as many students as possible can participate in this year’s conference.

Registration fees are $200 each and CSM journalism students are hoping for subsidies of $100 each.
