Man Killed by Caltrain at San Antonio Station

A man, who had trespassed onto the tracks, has been killed by the southbound train No. 332 Caltrain as it approached San Antonio Station this morning, according to Caltrain officials.

Emergency personnel, including the Santa Clara County coroner, arrived on the scene to assist with the body which remained covered in a blue blanket on the southbound platform.

Trains, which had been stopped in both directions, have begun to single track around the restricted incident area. There were 207 passengers affected.

The Baby Bullet train had not been scheduled to stop at the San Antonio station. According to Caltrain Spokeswoman Christine Dunn, the passengers were be transferred to the southbound train No. 134 at 10:38 a.m.

Commuters should expect delays of up to 45 minutes. 

The San Mateo County Transit Police will handle the investigation, according to Spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew because they patrol the entire railroad right-of-way from San Francisco to Gilroy. The Santa Clara County Coroner will make the official determination of the cause of death.

There have been nine fatalities on the Caltrain right of way this year, compared to 16 in 2011.
