Most Millbrae Students Test Above County Average
The California Department of Education releases standardized test scores.

Millbrae students on average scored higher on English and math standardized tests than other pupils in San Mateo County, according to a California Department of Education report released yesterday.
Statewide, students continued to improve their test results since the exam’s inception in 2003.
“The significant and sustained improvements we’ve seen for nine consecutive years prove how hard teachers, school employees, administrators, and parents are working to help students achieve despite budget cuts that have affected our schools,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson in a statement.

Overall, San Mateo County scored better than state averages, and Millbrae’s results were even higher.
On average, 46 percent of students placed in the “advanced” English category, more than any other Millbrae elementary school, and higher than the county average. On the other hand, scored the highest on average in math, with 62 percent of advanced students.

Every elementary school, with the exception of , scored higher on both math and English than the county average.
and also beat county averages, with about half of students deemed advanced, according to the test results.
Taylor students scored 48 percent advanced in English and 37 percent in math, about 5 percent higher than the county average. Mills High School ninth-graders scored particularly well in algebra, with 76 percent of students placing in the advanced level.
