Enzo, Redwoods and the Rascals

Multi-instrumentalist Enzo Garcia performs a rousing set in the redwood grove behind the library for an exuberant groups of youngsters and parents.

Mill Valley musician Enzo Garcia is many things: singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, children’s entertainer and inventor of the patented “Enzotar.”

After his performance in the amphitheater behind the Wednesday afternoon, we can add “Zen master” to that list.

In a 90-minute show in front of dozens of tirelessly exuberant toddlers and young children, Garcia exuded patience despite being swarmed from all sides by curious little ones.

Garcia played it cool throughout, engaging the children in a series of call-and-response numbers that found him leading a train of children (and parents) through the redwood grove. He played banjo, guitar, accordion and jaw harp, often using a loop pedal to transform himself into a one-man band.

To longtime Enzo followers, it’s no surprise that he can handle even the most rambunctious audience. He’s been performing the show for nearly a decade at venues throughout the Bay Area, including every Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in a “Breakfast with Enzo” show at the Mill Valley Golf clubhouse for the past four years.
