40 MPH Winds, Up To 10 Inches Of Rain Forecasted For Marin County

The National Weather Service has issued warnings as multiple storm systems are expected to hit.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — High winds, heavy rain and flood advisories are in effect as Marin County hunkers down for a major storm that is predicted to last through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The Mill Valley Police Department sent out an alert warning residents to anticipate the extreme weather conditions and to be aware of areas prone to flooding.

The NWS advises that multiple storm systems will move through Marin County this week, producing periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The strongest impacts are anticipated from Tuesday through Wednesday when wind gusts may reach 40 MPH across the county.

Marin County is forecasted to receive between 4 and 10 inches of rain from Monday through Friday.

A Flood Watch is active through 10 p.m. on Friday, which could cause potential flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as standing water in urban locations.

A High Wind Watch will be in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday, with possible impacts including power outages, downed trees and power lines due to saturated soil, property damage and hazardous travel conditions.

Additionally, there is a slight chance of thunderstorms on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

For community preparedness, the MVPD is encouraging residents to take steps now to prepare for storm impacts, including securing loose outdoor items, clearing drains and gutters, placing leaves in green bins, preparing for potential power outages, and updating emergency kits to ensure flashlights and other essentials are working and spare batteries are present.

Free sand and sandbags are available at Hauke Park on Hamilton Drive, Boyle Park on Thalia Street and Behind Old Mill Park on Molino Avenue, according to the MVPD.
