On Sept. 11, 2001, Leslie Lakes' journey from her home in Montclair, N.J. to meet her cousin in Manhattan was cut short by the worst news she could imagine. But in the aftermath, Lakes used her talents as a licensed masseuse to volunteer with the American Red Cross and care for the legions of people who were working to clean up the Twin Towers site. Admittedly shy, Lakes said the tragedy gave her the feeling that when "it's not about you, it's bigger than you, and it's easy to step up." In 2010, Lakes moved to Mill Valley to be closer to family, and has since met her husband here.    The events of Sept. 11, 2001 had a huge direct impact on Lakes. How did that day impact you, not necessarily on that day but in the 10 years since? We'd like this to be an ongoing conversation among the people of Mill Valley as we approach the 10th year since the attacks on the U.S.
