Police Blotter: July 26-Aug. 1

Locker break-ins at the Community Center, a sword-wielding Marlboro man and a Skype argument heard 'round Shelter Bay highlight this week's police activities. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

July 26

7:42 a.m. – A Golden Gate Transit bus driver called police from Miller and Sunnyside avenues to report that a bicyclist took bus information from the bus and ripped it up. The driver said the bicyclist had moved on to the next bus to hassle the driver of that bus. Police were unable to locate the cyclist.

11:06 a.m. – An officer on patrol saw a man allowing his dog to swim in the reservoir at Cascade Dam. The officer advised the man that swimming in the reservoir was prohibited.

July 27

12:02 a.m. – A resident called police after seeing two cars parked in the lot on the east side of . The woman said she could see lights and people in the playground and was suspicious in the aftermath of the . Officers responded and found two security guards having a conversation during a shift change.

1:42 a.m. – While on patrol, an officer pulled over a car at East Blithedale Ave. and Kipling Dr. because it had a broken headlight. The officer reportedly found the driver to be on probation and in possession of undisclosed drugs. The driver was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and a parole violation and taken to Marin County Jail.

July 28

10:23 a.m. – A resident of Fern Canyon Road reported seeing two women – one around 55 years old and the other in her early 20s - release a raccoon from a large cage. The caller told police that she asked the women not to do it and they shouldn’t relocate animals. The caller asked police to contact the women to advise them of the right thing to do.

July 29

8:28 a.m. – A resident of Edgewood and Molino avenues reported seeing a man in his early 20s wearing a long trench coat, cowboy hat with feathers and a sword to his side. The caller told police the man didn’t seem threatening but was still concerned due to the presence of the sword. Police checked the area but were unable to locate a sword-wielding Marlboro man.

4:26 p.m. – A resident reported that his locker was entered and two credit cards were taken while he was working at the Aquatic/Fitness Center at the . The credit cards were subsequently used in Sausalito, and the incident was transferred to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office to handle. 

July 30

12:07 p.m. – Police received a call that a woman driving a green BMW was spotted driving into oncoming traffic, rolling through a stop sign at Hamilton and Roque Moraes drives and speeding away. The caller said the woman was texting while driving. An officer found the suspected vehicle, pulled over the car and advised the driver of the dangers of cell phone use, reckless driving and speeding. 

3:44 p.m. – An employee of the reported that a client threatened him and the practice over the phone because the pet hospital would not transport her dog to Los Angeles. The employee said the client threatened to “take them all out.” 

July 31

1:25 p.m. - A employee reported that an approximately 60-year-old woman wearing all black stole several items from store and was running down East Blithedale Av. carrying two or three bags filled with mostly cosmetics and hair products. The employee said the woman left store when she was confronted for shoplifting and gave back some items. Police apprehended the suspected shoplifted, who said she had just gotten out of jail for stealing. Police arrested the 46-year-old San Rafael resident on suspicion of burglary, theft with prior convictions and a probation violation. She was booked into the Marin County Jail.

August 1

7:14 a.m. – A resident of Lovell Ave. called police to relay second-hand information that a male juvenile was throwing at garbage truck and wielding a bat. Officer contacted a garbage collector from Mill Valley Refuse Service in the area and determined that the teen was a known subject to the agency. No crime was committed.

10:05 a.m. – A resident of Eton Way reported that sometime overnight her catalytic converter was stolen from her vehicle. 

2 p.m. – A resident reported hearing someone in an apartment or balcony on Shelter Bay Avenue was yelling threats for the past 30 minutes, saying things like, “You will have to pay for this!” The caller said she felt threatened. Police responded and found a man having an argument with one of his employees over Skype on his computer. No crime committed.

5:04 p.m. – For the second time in a week, a resident reported having his locker broken into at the Mill Valley Community Center, with credit cards stolen and used. The resident arrived at the center at noon and left at 1:30 p.m. The stolen cards were used to charge between $3,000 and $4,000 in San Francisco, according to the report.
