MARIN COUNTY, CA — Sound Summit will return to the slopes of Mount Tamalpais in just a few weeks, offering a full day of music and fun to help raise money for the state park and Roots & Branches Conservancy.

The annual festival will get underway Sept. 7 at the historic Mountain Theater, an iconic natural stone amphitheater with 4,000 seats and sweeping views of the Bay. This year's lineup is co-headlined by indie-rock icons Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett, supported by a strong slate of familiar and emerging artists.

According to organizers, the festival has raised more than $250,000 for Mount Tam over its history, including ley funds to restore the Steep Ravine Environmental Cabins and projects to rehabilitate popular campsites and trails in the state park.

"The piece that we love about Sound Summit is not only staging a resonant musical gathering in this stellar spot high above the Bay, but that we've been able to in turn fund truly meaningful projects on the mountain that enhance public access and experience, let alone others around fire prevention, water conservation, emergency equipment and services, and more," said Michael Nash, board president at Roots & Branches Conservancy. "It's a full circle, the proverbial gift that keeps on giving."

Tickets run $120 for adults and $60 for youth 12 and under, with free admission for visitors 2 and younger. Gates will open Sept. 7 at 10 a.m., with music scheduled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Reserved parking is priced at $65, and a round-trip bus shuttle from Mill Valley runs $30. Tickets and other information are available on the event website.
