MILL VALLEY, CA — Tamalpais High School wants to make sure a beloved longtime former employee’s contributions aren’t easily forgotten, and the school isn’t leaving anything to chance.

The school is renaming a building after Jewel Barrow, who impacted students in multiple roles during a career at the school that spanned nearly 50 years.

In recognition of her lifetime commitment to Tam High, the school is renaming Lower Keyser Hall to Barrow Hall.

She was selected as the Marin County Golden Bell Classified Employee of the Year in 2008.

The renaming of the building was approved by the Tamalpais Union High School District’s Board of Trustees in May.

“Ms. Barrow was known for her dedication to the students, many of whom sought out her guidance and support during their time on campus,” the district said in a news release announcing the building’s renaming.

“Throughout her career and even after her retirement, Ms. Jewel has been an advocate for and champion of all students. Her absence from Tam since retirement is felt deeply.”

Barrow retired after serving Tam High students for 48 years.

“She was an institution and an inspiration at Tam,” the district said.

The official unveiling of the sign commemorating Barrow’s contributions to the school will be held at Tam High Oct. 30 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
