We're Looking for Whiz Kids
We know there's no shortage of kids doing amazing things in this town. We want to highlight those achievements, from academic and athletic success to community service. Nominate someone for our weekly Whiz Kids feature.
Eight months ago, student Nathaniel Leahy broke his collarbone when he was hit by car while riding his bike across the intersection of Miller Ave. and Camino Alto. Leahy had run of time in crossing the long intersection before the light for opposing traffic turned green.
. He’d seen the countdown signals for pedestrians elsewhere that tell people exactly how much time they have until their light turns red, and wondered if one could be installed at the intersection where he was hit. He wrote City Hall a long letter to tell them about his idea.
Earlier this month, in advance of the new school year, the city's Department of Public Works installed countdown pedestrian signals at the crosswalks on the Miller/Camino Alto intersection, improving safety for the swarm of people that use that intersection every day, from Tam High and middle school students to Redwoods residents and nearby shoppers.

Leahy's efforts to turn a lemon (ok, a broken collarbone) into lemonade serves as a great example of some of the amazing kids we have here in Mill Valley. And we want to hear about them for our weekly Whiz Kid of the Week feature.
Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or propelled the local soccer to the championship? How about a group of kids going above and beyond and performing a great community service? They all are potential Whiz Kids of the Week.
