Campbell Man Identified In Crash On Mt. Hamilton Rd.: SCC
The vehicle barreled over an embankment in rural Santa Clara Co., killing the passenger on his birthday. The driver is accused of DUI.
MILPITAS, CA — A man identified as Anthony Harris of Campbell died in the crash on Mount Hamilton Road on his birthday last week, the Santa Clara County Coroner announced.
The driver was arrested on the rural Santa Clara County call that came in at 11:47 p.m. The fatal crash involved a vehicle that careened down an embankment at 15600 Mount Hamilton Road east of Alum Rock Avenue, the CHP reported. Officers spotted the vehicle by the tail lights glowing off the road.
The driver identified as 36-year-old Latoya Phillips of Campbell had to be extracted from the 2018 Range Rover Velar, according to the report. At one point, rescue crews discussed pulling the vehicle out with a tow truck from the bottom of the bank.

Fire department and medical response personnel made their way approximately 150 feet down the embankment to the Range Rover and found a 52 year male passenger in the front seat unresponsive. After attempting to render medical aid, paramedics declared the passenger dead.
Phillips told officers she and her passenger were leaving a restaurant and coming down the hill when the vehicle drifted. She was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest for felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, CHP reported. Phillips was booked into the Santa Clara county jail after being medically cleared.
