Berkeley Felon Arrested, Accused Of Gun, DUI Offenses: Police

Milpitas Police officers witnessed erratic driving behavior, pulled over the felon on E. Calaveras Blvd. and noticed a handgun on the seat.

MILPITAS, CA — A 42-year-old Berkeley man was arrested on suspicion of firearm and probation violations as well as drunk driving allegations, the Milpitas Police Department reported Thursday night.

Milpitas Police officers responded to the 500 block of East Calaveras Boulevard in Milpitas for the report of a 2000 white Mercedes-Benz S-430 driving recklessly in the area a week ago. A second caller reported seeing the suspect identified as Jerrad Downey place the handgun inside a
white Mercedes-Benz, the police department added. Officers saw Downey leave the Town Center Shopping Center and conducted a high-risk vehicle stop with an unloaded Berretta handgun on the front passenger seat.

Downey was on probation in Alameda County for reckless driving. He was also determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol, officers added. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
