Council Preview: Council to Consider South Milpitas Blvd. Extension

A public hearing on a South Milpitas Boulevard expansion project is set for the Milpitas City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 19.

Councilmembers and the public will have a chance to weigh in on the project, which would connect South Milpitas Boulevard to Montague Expressway and Capitol Avenue.

In 2008, the council approved a plan to redevelop an approximately 432-acre area in the southern area of Milpitas into a “transit-oriented district” at the intersection of the light rail and BART station. According to city documents, “the BART Station Subdistrict of the TASP (Transit Area Specific Plan) includes the planned extension of Milpitas Boulevard south from Montague Expressway to Capitol Avenue to serve the future BART station.”

The Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority will design and construct the extension project, which will include “full improvements consisting of new signalized intersections, roadway pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalks, storm drains, water and sewer utilities, street lighting, median islands, and street landscaping,” according to city documents.
