Elmwood Inmate Found Dead In Cell
The sheriff's office said a preliminary investigation into the death found no evidence of foul play.
MILPITAS, CA — An inmate died Thursday at the Elmwood Correction Facility after he was discovered unresponsive in his barracks, according to the sheriff's office.
Officials said deputies found the 41-year-old man a few minutes after 10 a.m. and worked with medical staff to administer CPR until medics arrived. The Milpitas Fire Department arrived at the scene around 10:30 a.m. and pronounced the man dead 20 minutes later. The sheriff's office said there were no immediate signs of foul play.
Per protocol, the sheriff's office will complete a joint investigation into the death with the District Attorney's Office and the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office.

The inmate was identified only as an inmate booked into jail on Dec. 5 on suspicion of felony sexual assault. His name will be released after his next of kin is notified.
