Ex Officer Accused Of Filing False Report Surrenders On Warrant

The Stockton man turned himself in on a $10,000 warrant relating to a false account of police car damage. He's off the force as of Jan. 8.

MILPITAS, CA -- A former officer turned himself in on a $10,000 arrest warrant regarding felony accusations that he falsified a police report, the Milpitas Police Department announced Tuesday.

Victor Madarang, 24, of Stockton, was sworn in to the force for the city on July 12, 2018. His last day of employment was Jan. 8.

The matter involved inconsistencies on a report filed last December regarding damage to a marked police vehicle. The police department submitted the investigation to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office as a standard procedure. Upon an impartial review, the District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Madarang.

Investigator John Chase indicated Madarang hit a pole while driving in a parking lot, damaging the patrol car.

"But then he later wrote a police report claiming that the patrol car was hit by another car while the patrol car parked," Chase told Patch.

Assistant Police Chief Kevin Moscuzza added the officer was on duty at the time, but it was determined he wasn't under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police department released him from duty.

"We don't know exactly why he would've done that," Moscuzza said.

The discrepancies in Madarang's explanation were found internally before being turned over to the county.

The circumstances were billed by Milpitas police Capt. Jared Hernandez as "a hit for law enforcement."
