Man In Milpitas Jail Custody Dies At Hospital: S.C. Co. Sheriff's
A joint investigation determined no foul play in the incident deemed a medical distress call.
MILPITAS, CA — A 23-year-old man died at a hospital during his custody at Elmwood Correctional Facility, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department reported Wednesday.
The man identified as Jose Arellano was booked into the Milpitas jail on Abel Street in April 23 on charges stemming from an assault with a deadly weapon and probation violation.
He was reported as being in medical distress Tuesday when officers responded at 8:15 p.m. Deputies and medical staff began administering first aid and CPR. He was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center at 8:40 p.m. and pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m.

As a result of a joint investigation, the sheriff's department, district attorney and coroner determined no signs of foul play suspected in his death. Instead, the sheriff's department indicated he died of pre-existing medical conditions.
The man's identity will be revealed once next of kin has been notified.
