Milpitas Opens Applications For Workforce Rental Assistance

Funds allotted by the city will help cover rent expenses for up to 50 low-income households for two years.

MILPITAS, CA — Milpitas is now accepting applications for a new rental assistance program designed to help low-income workers make ends meet amid rising rents.

The city set aside more than $770,000 in funding to support two years of rental assistance for up to 50 households that meet income qualifications and match one of three program tiers.

"This program reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring that members of our community have a safety net as they face challenges associated with housing instability," said Mayor Carmen Montano. "By supporting these households with rental assistance for 24 months, we're highlighting our commitment to creating a Milpitas where everyone can thrive."

The program requires applicants to be employed and earning no more than 30 percent of the area median income to qualify. Households with at least one person living and working in Milpitas will receive priority consideration, followed by households with a Milpitas resident who works outside the city, and a Mipitas worker who lives in another city.

Forward will administer the program and its online application portal, which can be viewed in dozens of languages. The application process requires proof of identification, a recent pay stub and other documentation.
