Milpitas Unified Hires New Director of Educational Services
New director was principal of Burnett Elementary School.

The following press release is from Milpitas Unified School District:
The MUSD Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Catherine Waslif to Director of Educational Services effective July 1, 2012. Ms. Waslif has been the principal of Burnett Elementary School for the past five years where she has made a tremendous impact on the Burnett staff, students and parents.
Ms. Waslif started working with children at the San Mateo recreation department while she was in high school and it was here that she discovered the excitement and joy a child experiences with success in learning. After teaching English as a second language in Korea, Ms. Waslif taught middle school at St. Mathews in San Mateo. In 1997 Ms. Waslif became a teacher at Spangler Elementary School, which is where she also began her administrative career as an assistant principal. In 2007 Ms. Waslif was appointed principal of Burnett Elementary School. Principal Waslif fosters student learning and excellence in teaching through her infectious smile, compassionately high expectations, and constant interaction with parents, students and staff.
Burnett was recently recognized as a California Distinguished School under Ms. Waslif’s leadership because she cultivates a commitment to teamwork that increases student achievement. Ms. Waslif and her staff implemented many programs at Burnett that have enhanced school culture and excellence such as EL Achieve, Board Language, Board Math, IXL, the Latino Literacy Program, and the Mouse Squad. Catherine Waslif is a purposeful leader who conveys her vision for student success through her involvement in all aspects of the school community, and we are confident that she will continue to do so in her new role as Director of Educational Services.
