Sinkhole Fixed, Reopening Westbound Montague Expwy In Milpitas
A large sinkhole continued to grow over the weekend on the major Milpitas thoroughfare, but road crews put their efforts into overdrive.

MILPITAS, CA -- Road crews got a handle on a giant sinkhole that kept growing through the weekend after closing westbound lanes on the Montague Expressway on Friday evening, Santa Clara County announced. The road has since reopened.
“We were able to fill up the sinkhole and complete repairs to the westbound lanes on Montague today,” county Roads and Airports Director Harry Freitas said. “We know how inconvenient the expressway closure is for drivers. Our staff along with the contractor teams worked around the clock to complete the repairs and reopen westbound Montague for Monday morning commute.”
The sinkhole was about 25 square feet wide and 12 feet deep. Repairs to the roadway included digging out the sinkhole area, stabilizing the soil underneath, back filling the sinkhole to the surface and paving the surface of the roadway.
