Cable TV: Big Ten Sports on the Way for Subscribers

Cox subscribers will have more college sports programming—if they pay for the extra sports package.

Just in time for fall sports, a new college sports channel is coming to Cox cable in Orange County on Aug. 15, said Cox Senior Vice President Dave Bialis.

Big Ten Network airs live sports, including football and basketball, featuring the Big Ten Conference. It also airs coaches’ shows and classic games.

The new channel will only be available to Cox basic cable subscribers who pay for the additional "Sports and Information Pak," which costs $12 per month according to cox.com.

Customers need to have digital service, also known as Advanced TV, to get Sports and Info Pak, said Cox spokesman Jacob Karp. He said most of their customers already have this service, which costs $60.49 per month.

According to its website, each year BTN airs about 40 football games, 105 men's basketball games, 55 women's basketball games and "dozens of Big Ten championship events."
