To help curb fatal opioid overdoses, Providence Mission Hospital is providing free Narcan to the public — no questions asked.
MISSION VIEJO, CA — As the number of fatal opioid overdoses mounts in the United States, Providence Mission Hospital is taking part in a program that hopes to curb those health risks.
As of Tuesday, Providence Mission Hospital is providing free Narcan to the public, no questions asked, no prescription needed and no age limitations.
The hospital is taking part in the California Department of Health Care Services' Naloxone Distribution Project to offer the opioid overdose-reversal medication to the public free of charge.

Residents who wish to proactively fight against fatal opioid overdoses can pick up a free Narcan at the hospital emergency department.
According to a news release, Narcan is a life-saving medication that blocks the opioid receptor sites, reversing the toxic — and fatal — effects of an overdose.
