A Fundraiser for Matthew Melo's Family that Will Make You Sweat

Melo was one of five teens who died earlier this month on the I-5.

From the city of Mission Viejo:

Residents are invited to get fit and burn calories for a good cause on Saturday, Oct. 18.

A special fitness class will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Montanoso Recreation Center to raise money for the family of Matthew Melo. Matthew was one of five teens killed in a fiery car crash on the I-5 freeway in Irvine. He was a student at Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo.

“Instead of families putting aside money for the upcoming holidays, they are trying to raise money for a funeral,” said class instructor Melisa Stoner, who is a friend of the Melo family. “This is a great way to help out.”

The class will mix weights and body weight exercises including cardio and strength training and will cater to all fitness levels.

A Montanoso membership is not required to take the one-time class, but members and non-members are asked to donate a minimum of $10 to participate. Those who are unable to attend can support the family by donating online at http://www.gofundme.com/fhmmhg.

The Montanoso Recreation Center is at 25800 Montanoso Drive. For more information, call 949-859-4348.
