Mission Viejo Nadador Deemed A Diving World Champion

Anna Lemkin of the Mission Viejo Nadadores won a gold medal at the FINA Junior World Championships in Montreal, Canada.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — A young South Orange County diver has just won the first Junior World title for the Mission Viejo Nadadores this week for this first time since 1997.

Anna Lemkin in the Mission Viejo Nadadores recently took home the gold while competing at the FINA Junior World Championships in Montreal, Canada.

The Nadadores Head Coach John Appleman was also named the Head Coach of the USA Diving world team, according to a news release.

Lemkin began the finals in second place but proved to be the most consistent diver with a final total of 344.75, which bettered her preliminary score by 21 points.

"We are so proud of Anna, she fought for that gold and was solid in a great contest," Appleman said in a news release. "She's a wonderful representative for both USA Diving and the Mission Viejo Nadadores."

The last Nadador to win a Junior World title was Erica Sorgi, in 1997, according to a news release.
