One Dead And Traffic Stalled For Miles After Crash On 405 Freeway
Traffic on the freeway stalled considerably Thursday afternoon after a car crash left at least one person dead near Irvine.
ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Southbound traffic on the California State route 405 slowed around 1:30 p.m. Thursday after a car crash left at one dead, the California Highway Patrol reported. The incident shut down two lanes on the freeway in Irvine, the CHP said.
The identity of the deceased person is not yet known.

The collision happened Thursday afternoon near Irvine Center Drive. According to the CHP, at least one of the cars caught fire shortly after the crash. The Orange County Coroner arrived to the scene shortly after.

Traffic heading south on the freeway was stalled for miles after the crash, and the CHP issued an hourlong SigAlert at 1:45 p.m. while authorities assessed and cleared the scene. As of 3:50 p.m., the SigAlert remains in place.

The CHP asked Orange County commuters to steer clear of this area on the freeway until authorities leave the scene.
