MISSION VIEJO, CA — The Shops at Mission Viejo is going to undergo a few changes in anticipation of the 2026 holiday season, after the mall announced a multimillion-dollar expansion on March 27.

The expansion will include adding an outdoor shopping and dining "village," according to reports.

"Outdoor living is such an integral part of the Orange County lifestyle, and creating more open-air experiences is a significant point of emphasis in our plans," Patsy Sanquist, the mall’s general manager, said in a news release.

According to the statement, the mall is adding 50,000 square feet of retail and dining space.

Construction should start later this year with plans to open the new area in 2026 in time for the holiday shopping season.
