Wheelchair Tennis Elite Announced for Mission Viejo Tourney

The players list for Mission Viejo's first ever Wheelchair Tennis Masters competition has been announced.

The tournament, scheduled for Nov. 5-11, will include 36 competitors.

Thirty-six "Superhumans"—including three from the U.S.—will compete at the 2013 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters and ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters Nov. 5-11 at Mission Viejo's Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, the International Tennis Federation announced Tuesday.

The top eight men’s and women’s singles players and four quad singles players qualify for the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters. The top eight men’s doubles pairings; top six women’s doubles pairing; and four quad doubles pairings qualify for the ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters.

The US quad players include Greg Hasterok – no. 6 in men’s singles and 3 in doubles – who will compete with the lone female quad player Sarah Hunter of Canada.  David Wagner, no. 1 in men’s singles and doubles quads, and his partner Nick Taylor who holds the no. 4 spot in quad singles and no.2 in doubles will also compete. The duo was named 2012 Paralympic Team of the Year and won the 2013 US Open quads doubles.

The exciting tournament also features the no. 1 and no. 2 men’s singles players and US Open doubles partners Shingo Kunieda of Japan and Stephan Houdet of France battling it out for the top singles spot. The top qualifying women are no. 1 singles player Aniek van Koot of Netherlands; no. 2 Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany; and Yui Kamiji, first-year pro and singles winner in the US Open USTA Wheelchair Championship.
