Did you know bolder coffee has less caffeine than its milder cousins?
It's true, says Dakota Miller, barista at It's a Grind on Marguerite.
Here's why: bold coffee has been brewed at a hotter temperature.
"Heat and caffeine are not friends," fellow barista Austin Peterson added.
So if you want the maximum buzz per ounce, look for a milder roast, Miller recommended.
Another highly caffeinated concoction is cold brew (also called Toddy coffee after a commercial brewing system). It's based on the same idea--less heat, more caffeine.
You can pick up a gallon of unsweetened Toddy for $16 at It's a Grind. Peterson called it a good deal, pointing out it can be diluted 100 percent by water and lasts up to a month, providing two gallons of iced coffee.
