Basketball 'Battle of the Badges' Pits Monrovia Firefighters Against Police

Officers from the Monrovia Police Officer's Association will take on local Firefighters union in a basketball match for charity and local bragging rights.

Can Monrovia firefighters effectively defend the pick and roll? Is there a Monrovia police officer with a decent jump shot. Do any of our peace officers have the hops to dunk?

These questions and more will be answered on June 1 when the local police and firefighters unions square off on the basketball court for the "Battle of the Badges."

The charity basketball game will raise money for , the run/walk sponsored by the American Cancer Society that takes place June 2.

"We both have Relay for Life teams and we just wanted to do another fundraiser that can boost the money that we pay," said Monrovia Police officer Sarah Bushmeyer.

The first annual hoops showdown will go down at at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5. Kids under 12 are admitted free.
