Mayor Lutz Attending National Urban Design Conference

Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz is one of eight mayors participating in the National Mayors' Institute on City Design conference in Texas.

Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz flew to Houston this week to attend the National Mayors’ Institute on City Design, an urban planning conference meant to equip local officials with the knowledge to improve the design of their cities.

Lutz is one of eight mayors in the western U.S. chosen for the conference, according to a city news release.

"I am honored to be invited to this event," Lutz said. "It’s a testament to the fact that Monrovia is at the forefront in urban design."

Created in 1986, the Mayors’ Institute has worked to transform communities with the goal of makeing mayors the chief urban designers in their cities. More than 850 mayors have "graduated" from the program.

"The MICD achieves its mission by organizing sessions where mayors engage leading design experts to find solutions to the most critical urban design challenges facing their cities," the release states.
