Monrovia Athlete Headed to Crossfit Regional Championships
Marisa Thomas, who works out at Monrovia's Crossfit gym, will compete in the Crossfit Regional Championships after a stellar finish in Southern California's qualifier last month.

Marisa Thomas works out six days a week and sometimes twice a day when she's feeling especially energetic.
The 27-year-old endurance athlete, who trains at , finished 38th in Crossfit's Southern California open qualifiers and is headed to Pomona next month to compete in the regional championships.
Crossfit training is a specific workout style that stresses varied exercise routines done in a group atmosphere. On any given day, Thomas will do Olympic-style deadlifts, rowing, gymnastics, cardio training and myriad other activities with other Crossfit devotees who push each other to the limit.

"Crossfit is nice because it's a big community of people," Thomas said.
Thomas has participated in Crossfit for the last three years and has a history as a competitive athlete. She played soccer in high school and was a college rower during her days at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

If Thomas finishes strong in the regional championships at the Pomona Fairplex, she will move on to the world championships at the Home Depot Center in July. She plans to compete in Monrovia's in the meantime.
