Plastic Carryout Bag Ban Begins July

Plastic carryout bags will be banned in the City of Glendale under a new city ordinance adopted this month.

Starting July 1, plastic carryout bans will no longer be available in supermarkets, farmer’s markets and food marts with gross annual sales of $2,000,000 or more and stores of at least 10,000 square feet, according to city press release.

The ordinance also imposes a ten-cent charge on recyclable paper carryout bags, with some exceptions. City officials are encouraging shoppers to use reusable bags.

By Jan.1, 2014, smaller stores, food markets, liquor stores, City-sponsored events and facilities must be in compliance.
