Get Out for Some Weekend Fun: Sept. 22-23

Here are some events and activities taking place in and around the neighborhood this weekend.

We know you don't always stay in the neighborhood for the weekend, so here are some  events and activities taking place Saturday and Sunday in town and nearby.

Simi Valley Fair & Music Festival:The 28th annual festival will take place through Sunday at Rancho Simi Community Park, 1765 Royal Ave., Simi Valley. The hours are noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a parade starting at 7 a.m. Saturday. General admission is $7, seniors and kids under 12 are $5 and kinds under 5 get in free.

Leonis Adobe Hands-On History Day: Learn how to make tortillas, churn butter, rope a "steer," hand-wash clothes, bye woold and other activities like early settlers to the area from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Leonis Adobe, 23537 Calabasas Road, Calabasas. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children under 12. Museum members get in for free.

Malibu Canyon Dirt Dash: This event benefiting the Salvation Army kids' camp includes a 5K or 10K scenic trail run and a 5k mud run with rope climbs, swings, bridge crossings and a mud pit and is for walkers, runners and adventurers of all skill levels. It takes place from 8 to 1 p.m. Saturday at Camp Gilmore, 26801 Dorothy Drive, Calabasas. See the event website for details and costs.

Camarillo Old Town MusicFest: Enjoy arts exhibits, wine tasting, a beer garden and gourmet food trucks while listening to live performances by Sheila E and the E Family and American Idol semi-finalist Kendra Chantelle at the MusicFest. It takes place from 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday at 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo. General admission is $30 at the gate. Bring chairs and blankets to sit on. See more details on the festival website.

Thousand Oaks Arts Festival: This ninth annual event features live performances, children's hands-on artistic and interactive art exhibits and art of all sorts. There will also be food available for purchase from food trucks. The festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks and the adjacent The Lakes shopping center. Admission is free.
