High Wind, Red Flag Warnings Issued for Moorpark

Gusts could reach 60 mph.

Strong winds are expected tonight in Moorpark and most other areas in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, according to the National Weather Service. Combined with the expected low humidity, the winds could lead to a dangerous fire.

The NWS has issued High Wind and Red Flag warnings. Both are in effect from 10 p.m. tonight through Sunday at 3 p.m. "Advisory level wind gusts" are expected through Monday morning.

The northeast winds are expected to reach 25 mph to 40 mph. Gusts could hit 60 mph. The strongest winds will be in the passes and canyons.

"Very strong winds will be capable of downing trees and power lines, knocking down outdoor objects, creating flying debris and causing dangerous driving conditions especially for high-profile vehicles," the NWS' website states. 

The relative humidity level is expected to reach no higher than 15 percent.

The NWS' website states, "If fire ignition occurs, there could be the potential for large fire growth with rapid fire spread, which could lead to a threat to life and property."
