Police Chase Leads to Arrest of Two Men

The incident began with a burglary of a market on Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks.

Following a vehicle and foot pursuit Sunday, police arrested two suspects they believe were involved in a Thousand Oaks market burglary.

The incident n with a burglary at the Latino Market on Thousand Oaks Boulevard, where an alert citizen noticed several men arrive at the business in a vehicle with its light off at about 4:20 a.m., according to a statement issued by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

The men were wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts when they entered the business and removed property from inside, the Sheriff's Department said.

When a deputy responding to the call tried to stop a vehicle matching the description of that used by the men, the vehicle sped away and crashed into a fence in a residential area.

A several-hour search via deputies, K-9 units and a helicopter followed when the men fled on foot in a residential neighborhood south of Janss Road.

During an inspection of the vehicle, deputies found a safe and a large amount of cash inside, the Sheriff's statement said.

Two suspects, Dominque Devonn Lewis, 24, and Thurman Sutton, 28, both of Los Angeles, had large quantities of cash in their possession when they were arrested, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Both men are affiliated with a criminal street gang in Los Angeles and are part of a crew responsible for several commercial burglaries in the Thousand Oaks area since March 16, according to the statement, which went on to state the suspects have taken safes and cash registers with the losses totaling more than $30,000 to date.

The men were each booked on four counts of commercial burglary, conspiracy, hit and run, felony evading and resisting arrest, the statement said. Lewis is being held on $80,000 bail and Sutton's bail has been set at $60,000, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Investigators continue to pursue leads in the the case and believe the suspects and the associates are responsible for burglaries in other jurisdictions as well.
