Police said the man apparently set a house on fire and fired several shots into the street before taking off on the tractor.

Ventura County Fire Department personnel responded to the house fire on Mellow Lane and extinguished the blaze. A dead woman was discovered inside the residence. Although her identity has not been confirmed, police believe she was Carnan’s mother.
Residents reported a man driving through the neighborhood on a tractor firing a gun.

Police shot the suspect when "the officers were confronted with a deadly force situation," the Simi Valley Police Department said in a press release.
