Red Flag Warning Issued for Moorpark

Low humidity combined with wind gusts that could reach 70 mph create a fire risk.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the coastal, mountain and valley areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, including Moorpark. The warning went into effect at 10 p.m. Tuesday and will continue until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

"High pressure will rapidly build across the Great Basin tonight … generating a strong offshore flow pattern across Southern California that will continue into Wednesday," the NWS' website states. "This will translate into a strong and widespread Santa Ana wind event for Southern California … with Los Angeles and Ventura counties being the focus of the strongest winds."

Peak wind speeds are expected to occur overnight through Wednesday morning, according to the NWS. Gusts could reach 70 mph in the mountains. Strong winds are also expected on the coast. The humidity level is expected to go below 15 percent.
