📰 News we're reading

• Morro Bay plans to hire new city manager (calcoastnews.com) — Morro Bay is set to bring in John Craig as its new city manager after the City Council unanimously approved his contract, with final confirmation planned for Jan. 13. Craig, a veteran public administrator with experience in several states and Mono County, says he plans to listen first and focus on maintaining services that reflect Morro Bay’s values.

• Fugitive found, Powerball jackpot climbs, and local cops spread Christmas cheer (ksby.com) — A fugitive murder suspect was arrested on Mindoro Street in Morro Bay after a brief standoff, and he’s now in SLO County Jail awaiting extradition to Louisiana. Morro Bay police also cruised local neighborhoods with lights, sirens, and Santa aboard, handing out small treats as part of a multi-evening “caroling cops” holiday tradition.

• How did your community vote on Prop. 50? See the detailed SLO County data (sanluisobispo.com) — Morro Bay voters strongly backed Proposition 50, joining San Luis Obispo as one of the cities with the largest margins of support in SLO County’s recent special election. New precinct-level data show coastal and college-adjacent areas, including Morro Bay, drove much of the “yes” vote, while rural regions leaned against the redistricting measure.
