​5 Displaced In Mountain View Apartment Complex Fire

All residents of the building safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, and there were no injuries in the fire department's response.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Five residents of an apartment complex in Mountain View were displaced on Saturday by an appliance fire that damaged two apartments.

The fire broke out at about 9:30 p.m. at a complex in the 2000 block of Latham Street, according to a news release from the Mountain View Fire Department.

All residents of the building safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, and there were no injuries in the fire department's response.

The fire was traced to a combo washer/dryer unit. The flames were put down by the three-story building's sprinkler system, which caused water and smoke damage to nearby apartments.

Thermal imaging was used by firefighters to ensure the fire had not spread within the walls, according to the fire department.

Firefighters worked to remove the water and prevent further damage to more units.

The American Red Cross responded to help the displaced find temporary accommodations until they can re-enter their homes.

The Mountain View Fire Department's statement said damage was estimated to be at least $60,000.
