$9.5M Headed To Support SR-82 Projects In Santa Clara County

The state and federal funds will help cover a slate of improvements planned for an eight-mile stretch of the highway.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA—A mix of state and federal funds will support work to install new bike lanes, crosswalks, pedestrian push buttons and other improvements along an eight-mile stretch of State Route 82 in Santa Clara County.

The California Transportation Commission recently announced nearly $1 billion in new allotments for projects across the state designed to improve mobility and address evolving challenges.

"These investments will harden the transportation system, against the devastating results of extreme weather events," said Caltrans Director Tony Tavares. "The allocations made today will add to the electric charging infrastructure, increase mobility options for people who walk and bicycle and enhance our goal to improve safety and economic equity for all users."

The CTC said roughly $9.5 million would support two projects in Santa Clara County, including $7.1 million to rehabilitate pavement, add pedestrian crossings and install bike lanes on State Route 82 in Mountain View, Los Altos and Palo Alto. Another $2.4 million will help pay for pedestrian safety upgrades on the highway between Knickerbocker Drive and the San Mateo County line.

According to Caltrans, this month's allotments include roughly $623 million from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 and $264 million in state Senate Bill 1 funds.
