MORENO VALLEY, CA — A 17-year-old boy died and seven people were injured in a car crash in Moreno Valley Sunday.
The crash was reported around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Moreno Beach Drive and Cactus Avenue, according to Sgt. Chad Craig of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Linares drove a gray 2001 Lexus IS 300 through a red light while northbound on Moreno Beach Drive as a 2020 Honda Odyssey that was eastbound on Cactus Avenue entered the intersection on a green light.
"The Lexus continued into the intersection and was broadsided by the Honda in the intersection," Craig said. "The impact of the collision caused the Lexus to then collide into a metal traffic signal pole on the northeast corner of the intersection."

A girl who was a passenger in the Lexus was hospitalized with major traumatic injuries, he said.
The 59-year-old woman driving the Honda and her five passengers were taken by paramedics to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Craig said.
It was not known whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash, he said.
