Brush Fire Near Dairy Farm Under Control: 15 Acres Burn

SAN JACINTO, CA — A brush fire that broke out near a dairy farm just north of San Jacinto was under control Wednesday after burning about 15 acres.

The non-injury blaze was reported shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Gilman Springs Road and Highway 79, within a mile of where a previous brusher scorched 13 acres adjacent to a landfill Tuesday morning, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving upslope at a moderate rate near Victory Ranch and Scott Brothers Dairy.

Because of darkness, no Cal Fire air tankers or water-dropping helicopters were requested.

The fire briefly threatened structures on the dairy farm, but no homes were in the path of the flames, according to reports from the scene.

Northbound Highway 79 was closed to traffic between Lamb Canyon Road and the city limits of Beaumont as a public safety precaution until the fire was fully contained just before midnight.

Firefighters patrolled the area, looking for hot spots in the predawn hours Wednesday, but there were no signs of restarts.

Scattered rain was in the forecast for the San Jacinto Valley on Wednesday.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
