CPR, First Aid Training Offered In Murrieta This Winter

The City of Murrieta and the American Heart Association are providing CPR/AED classes for residents wanting to learn how to save lives.

MURRIETA, CA —February is a good time to think about your heart and the hearts of those you love. The American Red Cross and the City of Murrieta are partnering to offer potentially life-saving CPR and First Aid classes in both February and March.

"The American Heart Association CPR/AED course provides instruction in adult, child,d and infant CPR, including recognition and emergency resuscitation techniques for cardiac arrest, AED use, and choking," according to the community services department signup sheet.

Class attendees must be able to perform strenuous compression skills tests on an adult feedback manikin to be certified.

The first aid portion of the course will teach how to manage illness and injuries within the first few minutes of an emergency until help arrives, according to the class syllabus.

"This is not a BLS/Healthcare provider CPR class," they said.

Students between the ages of 14 and under 18 can attend the class but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Once the course is complete, each student will receive a. CPR and/or First Aid certification from the American Heart Association through E-cards sent to their email accounts.

Both CPR and First Aid courses are taught on Sat. Feb 8 and Sat. March 8, for a fee of $45 and $30, respectively.
