TEMECULA, CA — On Christmas Eve, the doors of Temecula's Active sportswear were locked, a sign declaring the owners were "pausing to reset." The ride shop, located in the Target Shopping Center at 29720 Rancho California Road, were purveyors of ski, snowboard and skateboarding clothes and rides. They have not posted to social media since October.

"We appreciate you allowing us to be a part of your community for the past 30+ years, we are extremely grateful for your support," the sign reads.

"Thank you to everyone that has been a part of the journey thus far, and we look forward to being able to serve you again in the near future. Our website is also currently under construction but will be back again life soon.

Temecula's Mayor, Brenden Kalfus, was out and about and shared the news with area residents.

"Active was a shop my brothers and I have gone to since we were kids," Kalfus said. "Active, you will be missed but can't wait to see what you come up with in the future."

Kalfus says he has fond memories of opening up those Active boxes on Christmas morning, and returning to school after the holiday in his "rad new clothes."

He was quick to point out that the local Temecula government does not control commercial rent prices, or make decisions for private businesses.

"Whether it's Active or mom and pop antique shops, they make the choices that are best for them. The best we can do is encourage people to shop local and spend your money on businesses you love. We are sad to see them go, but understand they have to do what is best for their business."

Residents shared memories of shopping there over the years, the fun socks they sold, as recently as on Black Friday.
